Its basically what the ElyR did before the skills were introduced. The Max AP possible was 10, and you had an effective Attack Cost (with JoF) of 4 AP. So the +2 AP meant your AP would be 12 and you'd get 3 attacks, which was the most you could get with any weapon other than the QSD, but the ElyR had a higher AC, AD and BC than those other weapons.
This would basically give it the same benefit in the current skill system. Except that its AD and AC aren't as impressive with the more recently introduced weapons, but a boost to the "Bless" condition could easily fix that too.

I got up to 3,500 weak poisons, have up and sold them all, and tried again. Now back up to 731 weak poisons with no ElYr. MF 2.

That was before I was aware of counter items. Did the same thing for all the various other counter items too!

Yes, but the Weak Poisons could serve a purpose in the future. They have much more potential for use than say the sparkling gems do.

As far as use in combat, they became obsolete in the current build, as nothing in the game could threaten my character at that point, so I just sold them!

The weak poisons aren't a cure, they're the actual poison. If you ever want to quickly warp back to your last rested bed and don't mind a little XP loss, you can poison yourself with it. There's also been requests to "use" it to tip a weapon in poison to give it the ability to inflict weak poison, and if the devs ever decide to do that, it would be even more useful.

Nice one. Bet you don't use it for long. Bit of a trophy.
