I believe that the building he is hiding behind is the jail. Maybe he is getting revenge on someone who works there, or maybe he is planning on busting someone out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It all started with the Marrowtaint. Here I was a good guy doing the right thing, and then I meet this cute chick who wants me to help her with her rat problem. I remembered being the rat killer back in Crossglen so of course I had to help. Besides, she talked so seductively, I couldn't resist her. Now I've got the necklace and I'm always welcome in her cabin.

That little bit of bad felt real good! Since then I haven't hesitated doing things that would be considered a little bit on the bad side, like getting this dark protective helm. I'm even tempted to restore this old broken sword I found.

The question was posed a while ago as to what upgrade can be done by Rothses in Remgard. Well, I've been going around purchasing up all standard equipment and seeing if he'll upgrade it. I really haven't found much yet, but here's what I know about. I'll try and ad more, or post another thread specifically on this topic if I find more.
Edit 2013-11-02: So I've now exhaustively sold-out every merchant in the game (v0.7) and presented everything to Rothses - the above items are it, I can't find anything else he'll upgrade. I'm a bit disappointed, I was hoping the game would have a standard formula for upgrade on regular items (meaning any of them could be upgraded), but it only seems to be this set list. Ah well.

Looks like I lost a very interesting quest.(yeah, quests are more important to me, not the item).

You didn't lose the quest. You just followed a different path through it.
