Thanks Pyro, just got through. Nice read, absolutely worth while. Result for me: abstain from cleave, pointless.
Ahhh well, at least not before level 100 and the urge of the never ending quest for demigod carnage feeling... but at my level that's still a very loooooong way to go.

Re: Benefits of Cleave skill or the lack thereof
Very true, once you hit level 100 it really doesn't matter much where you put your skill points, you are more than likely already strong enough to take on anything in the game w/o worrying about getting yourself killed.
If i can get myself to resist starting over for log enough to reach level 100 again i think i might try getting cleave for my new build... his name is Eager Cleaver.

Re: Skill: Cleave
There is some really nasty places like the cave under the Lodar's house where monster's are after you.... moving and fleeing will be really hard...Spark wrote:I'm curious where are those locations where this skill could be used?
I haven't seen big part of the map yet. So I suppose there are some locations where monsters can surround you.
I hope my character could run and change position during battle instead of spending skills for WA and Cleave.

Re: Benefits of Cleave skill or the lack thereof
You are in combat with 2 NPCs (#1 & #2)
ooo
oP1
oo2
1) Take 2 swings at NPC #2 (leaving enough AP to move once)
2) Move diagonally to the spot above #1
3) Your turn ends
NPC #2 would now need to spend AP to move within range to hit you, This NPC wouldn't get as many swings in because of this.

Re: Benefits of Cleave skill or the lack thereof
I love cleave. Combine it with my 2AP attack cost and my habit for running around killing things as fast as possible and I find myself attacking multiple monsters quite often. In fact, I'd say that probably 25-30% of my fights involve multiple monsters. My next skill point is going towards Cleave (2) and while I may not put much more into cleave for a while, those 2 points in cleave give me an extra 3 attacks or a chance to flee after killing one monster. Beyond that, if I ever get around to gathering those -1 AP move cost items so that it only costs 4 AP to flee then I'm even better off.
Unfortunately, most weapons with high AP cost don't benefit anywhere near as much from cleave (although sometimes you can hit a sweet number that makes it handy).

When you have cleave2, attack cost3 and some crit chance... there is no need to flee or move around.....

Re: Benefits of Cleave skill or the lack thereof
To have cleave 2 you would have had to spend a total of 6 skills points (plus 2 more for combat speed lvl 2) So the lowest level you could be would be 32. (Realistically you'd probably be around level 40 because you'd want to invest a few SPs in Increased fortitude as well)Sarumar wrote:hmm... By this level hit and run tactics are not necessary anyways.
The tactics i posted in my last post were highly helpful for when trying to get thru areas that I wasn't high enough level for or for areas where the NPCs can hit really hard. It might be slow but it's safe.

Yes my fried friend you spoke some word of wisdom here, but.. my point is; cleave2 is the key if someone likes to build shivalike buildPyrizzle wrote:To have cleave 2 you would have had to spend a total of 6 skills points (plus 2 more for combat speed lvl 2) So the lowest level you could be would be 32. And IMO cleave1 is really usefull for any build.
