I get a 50% chance of getting an increase in health potential but not actual health that will disappear in a couple seconds.
How is this useful, I'm not getting it. How can i use this to my benefit if the duration is so short?

I don't understand your question.

Sword of Shadow's Rage:
Ap: 5
Ac: 21
Ad: 3-6
Bc: 5
On every kill:
On open source: 50% chance of minor berserker rage (1 rounds)
I have been trying to figure out what berserker rage does exactally.
1 turn is not a long time at all.

(2nd edit to keep just the "how do you get it?" part in spoilers).
As for the minor berserker rage, here are my stats, with no weapon, before and after taking a potion of blind rage (same effect as the sword except the potion lasts for 5 rounds instead of 1).
Before:
HP: 50/50, AP: 2, AC: 187%, AD: 26, BC: 45%
After:
HP: 50/85, AP: 2, AC: 247%, AD: 26, BC: -45%, Damage Resistance: -1
If you take healing potions, you can fill in the rest of your HP, but if you rest, it also "cures" you of the berserker rage so there's no way to fill in that extra HP for free.
Edit:
And just for fun - drinking a blackwater brew after the potion of blind rage:
HP: 65/100, AP: 3, AC 217%, AD: 30, BC: -45%, DR: -1

I don't understand your question.
HOW IS IT USEFUL? HOW CAN I USE THIS TO MY BENEFIT IF THE DURATION IS SO SHORT?

You get high bonus to AC. You got benefit when fighting multible enemies or when there are another monster near to you. Please read more about AC vs BC and hitting here:

Thanks, I didn't go back to overview screen after a kill to see the effect of rage. I could only see the increase in health.

It isn't really a bonus to the defense types out there, but if you are those berserker types with low defense, then you can go berserk and be assured of a hit every time you hit something. Useful if you have high damage but low hit rate, but a curse if you don't prefer playing D.
