Cleave Skill Poll

So i gotta ask everyone here:

Cleave: Useful or too many SPs down the drain to be useful?

I think i could get more use out of using 3 SPs in another Skill(s) than have to get the Weapon Accuracy, Hard Hit, and then get cleave. I could get a better build out of using those skills on others like Regeneration, Bark Skin, Corpse Eater, Increased Fortitude, or Combat Speed.

I would take:
Regeneration, Bark Skin, and Corspe Eater (or any combination of most of the other skills)
over
Weapon Accuracy, Hard Hit, and Cleave

ANY DAY, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. Opinions? (old players?)

I have one level of cleave and find it most useful. In fact it encouraged me to get into situations I would previously have avoided. I now try to fight multiple enemies whenever possible. Although fully understand why others might see it as a waste of skill points.

If I had to start over I probably wouldn't include cleave until later in the game. I think that prior to level 32, evasion would've been much more useful to dump 3 points in. I do still consider cleave to be useful to have and I will probably be going for cleave 2 at some point but beyond that I doubt I will need to go any further with it since I already have 6 attacks as base.

IMO cleave 1 is worth of cost for any build. It is awesome feeling when you kill 5 or 6 monsters in Ighan cave in single turn :twisted:

And case of my newest build weapons accuracy is also nice ;)

I posted in Tek's original topic, but the short story is, I didn't think it was worth 3 skill points at first, but after reconsidering and actually having the skill, I absolutely love it.

I even felt it was worth getting for my new game, I got it before getting Combat Speed so that I could get level 1 & 2 of that in a row (at level 28 & 32).

The Iqhan caves were the main place that made it seem like mobs might become more of an issue, but the Kazul cavern was another example where you can get mobbed. And even though the Weapon Accuracy and Hard Hit skill don't provide anything you can't get from regular level ups, the extra boost doesn't hurt, especially for my newer game since its lower level.

I will say that its usefulness goes up after you have Combat Speed level 2, and of course it also depends on what weapons you use, and if you have access to buy speed potions. But it also makes some of the higher AP cost weapons more useful if you're fighting mobs.

I would consider going to Cleave level 2 further down the line (after Corpse Eater and Level 3 of Evasion for my main game, and after Level 3 of Evasion on the new one). But I think anything after that is overkill and no longer worth going through 3 skill levels to get.

nice thread!

it's not just getting jumped or swarmed by moving enemies,
but you must also consider stationary mob traps...
- the three mobs at the fence in Iqhan
- the two bone champions guarding the mob with the warden's necklace in Flagstone
- im sure that more will be coming! :twisted:
also, building Cleave makes Concussion (new high level skill) more accessible.

i get the feeling that this game is going to be much longer,
and much higher level than i initially thought!

and remember, you don't have to attack with the gained AP...
they can be used to quaff potions or to run / reposition yourself in combat.

these techniques are complimentary to using gear that lowers AP, AP cost, or Move cost.
evasion also lends to this style of play, but that's another topic...

After starting to use the RoL in the Iqhan cave, I really needed Cleave 2, because of the high AP cost. Any two foes at once were taking a heavy toll on my HP, with only three swings; and just three added AP from killing the first monster at Cleave 1 did nothing with an AP cost of four. I am much safer now, with six AP. I get one extra attack and two AP to carry over to the third monster if there is one.

With the new update, I've seen a couple more spots where you're forced to fight at least 2 monsters at once, and more confined areas with lot of monsters where its harder to only attack one at a time, so I see Cleave being even more useful after the update.
