Factions

I'm getting confused about the game because at first I thought there were only four factions, but as I trawl through the forums, I see dramatic changes in the factions I percieved.

At first there was Feygard (the lawful) and the Shadow, (the chaotic) in Nor city, but then there came the thieve's guild, and then Kazaul, defiler of the temples. As if this wasn't enough, there are talks of even more ideas, such as:

- Ellythara is also in support of Feygard
-The thieve's guild supports Nor city
-There is a mysterious faction between Blackwater and Prim
-The Shadow and Elythara are two alike in body and mind, according to Ogam

So, just really how many factions are there?
PS are the Iqhan a faction?
PPS And does every single town have a faction in it?!

The thieves guild is independent & neutral... and every town supports one faction or other...

I don't get the thing about Vilegard and Loneford, though. If every single town is a faction, then they can't be towns. But if they are a part of the Shadow faction and the Elythara, then Why would anyone join up with the thieve's guild? (they only have influence in Fallhaven then) So, if this game is divided between Feygard and Nor city, why are there so many independants like Prim and Blackwater and Fallhaven and Crossglen? And if the game is divided between potentially limitless factions, why would we want to join forces with any but Feygard or Nor city, they seem to hold all the cards.

Lol, the thieves guild seems to be headquartered in fallhaven, but they have operatives in most if not all cities... The thieves are everywhere, but only if you know what to look for :D
the guys in the blue cloaks that hang around the edges of town, or in the taverns if they've got something to sell

You don't know for sure that the thieves guild helped Andor to fight for the Shadow. They could hate both the Shadow and Feygard, and dealing damage to Loneford forced Feygard to send Soldiers there and shook the villager's belief in the Shadow, damaging both Feygard and Nor City. Or the Thieves guild could just be working for money from Andor.

I think there are different 'layers', like in the real world. One is politics, on the other is religion. Of course the two interfere heavily. One political leader might choose one religion and want his fellows to choose the same. But there might still be single citizens that make a different choice.

The thieves guild might leave the spiritual choice to each member but tries to remain independent from both political and religious factions, as they are only loyal to their own fellows.

Umar in the thieves guild said Andor came to him asking for his support and also asking him for advice. Umar told him about Lodar and where to find him. Later Umar told us that Lodar's specialty is poisons, and Andor poisoned Loneford's well...
