Fleeing fight with multiple opponents

I'm not sure if this is a bug or the intended behavior, but I post it here anyway. When you are in a fight with two opponents (example the new underground area, where there are often two guards/creatures positioned next to each other), if you kill one of the opponents and then flee the battle, you still get the loot of the killed opponent. This is especially weird when you are not anymore adjacent to the square that contains the killed opponent's loot. In my opinion, after fleeing such a battle the loot should be dropped to the ground and one should have to walk onto said square to pick it up (the loot that is), thereby risking to re-enter battle. Opinions?

+1 I think this IS a bug. Sounds like one to me. Good catch.
Does this happen every time or only sometimes?
Does it happen with every creature?
Could you try it out against different types of creatures with different weapons?

I tried it just in one area using the 'hit and run' tactics, i.e. slash at the opponent once -- flee -- repeat. In that place it was repeatable every time. The weapon I used was the
