the black death(plague)

Post by scottdog »

You enter a village ravished by the black death, you enter the village hall to be greeted by the village chief who begs you for help, you agree so he tells you to seek out the village physician for instructions, once there the physician asks you to kill all the rats in the village that have caused this and check for any survivors,if you find any he gives you a vast amount of major health potions to give to them to bring them back to health(at this point you could keep them for yourself or continue with the quest)once you've killed all the rats and checked for survivors you go back to the physician for some sort of reward! This is just a basic idea at the moment but got more ideas for this one !

Well there is already a village that suffers from a plague, Loneford, but if the game's map gets bigger why not. Even a little town like Crossglen could be used for this quest. Maybe add a town on the Duleian Road?
You could continue this quest by adding the fact that the people that got killed by the plague became undead or add a black mage in a tower next to the town protected by hordes of undead that sent the plague.
First you kill all the rats and undead villager but the rats come back. The physician tells you the story of this black mage which was a priest of the Shadow but the chief banned him because he was trying to rise undead creatures. The black mage sent the plague to have his revenge on the town.

This could be a really nice quest. Once you've killed the black mage and killed all the remaining Plague Rats the survivors would come back and you could become their chief (as the chief dies at the end of the quest) and earn money by managing the village.

+1 This would be a really tragically quest! These rats should be of course be able to afflict you with the actorcondition "black death".
An idea: If you got the disease, you can give it to all other npcs (monsters, villagers...) and kill them but you lose your HP very fast (for example
-5 HP each round/6seconds). You should be also weakend at your BC and your AC.

Ye nice one Ian like the idea of the actor condition, perhaps once you killed all the rats you have to seek out a nest of fleas hidden in the village that caused the plague in the first place !

In the middle age the plague came from rats, i don't know how a fly could give you the black plague but could still have to destroy the rat's nest at the end of the quest (after killing the black mage) to secure the area.
+1 for the actorcondition: black plague. If you wear a special helmet (or suit) while fighting them you could have immunity to the plague. The suit could be bought from the potion maker in Fallhaven (let's use this now-useless npc).

Technically speaking, the plague came from a bacterium in fleas. The fleas lived and traveled via their hosts, the rats, thus spreading the bacterium far and wide. In other words, rats were merely the unsuspecting carriers... almost like limo drivers for the worlds deadliest assassins.

Anyway how would like a medieval-fantasy hero to destroy a nest of fleas, there aren't any "nests" for fleas. If you kill all the rats and maybe burn all the places where fleas are you could stop the plague...
Your hero would spend his day burning beds and carpets. What a heroic skillful quest.

Thought this was a fantasy game so doesn't matter in my opinion if fleas don't live in a nest, in true life the black death infested a village in england called eyam from a travelling merchant selling cloth infested with the fleas, so we could do something like that, once you killed all the rats you need to seek out the merchant and destroy all his stock, obviously he resists so you kill him, take back a sample of the cloth to the physician, who then tranforms it into some sort of potion that you can use on monsters !
