A Newbies thoughts about bread, food and potions

First off big thanks to the creators of this game. I am very noob only level 15 on my first character but I have some observations about food and potions and perhaps some suggestions. Apologies if all of this has been thought of before, I did search forums but I haven't' been around long enough to follow the development of the game.
Most foods are too expensive to use to top up health between fights. Only bread and bonemeal are reasonably priced. I tend to carry huge stacks of both to save me having to return to a bed every time. If I pick up meat or health potions I sell them and use the cash to buy bread or bonemeal. It works out much cheaper.
Suggestion (with apologies if this is impractical or has been thought of before)
1. Food (bread / meat / fruit) could be made much cheaper but could not be used in combat. Food would only be used to top up your health when out of combat. Keep the price per unit of healing of all foods roughly in line with each other so they all make sense to use.
2. Potions could remain expensive (perhaps comparable to bonemeal) but could be used during combat. Keep the price per unit of healing of all potions roughly in line with each other also so all potions make sense to use. Bonemeal could still be the highest healing potion but it would no longer be the only good value potion.
Note: Meat drops are a major source of income early on in the game so it might be necessary to adjust the value of other loot to compensate if meat was made much cheaper. Perhaps stuff like jewels could be increased in value to compensate. It never made sense to me that a single steak was more expensive that a rub.

Both good idea.
I find that the game does not give enough gold and xp, gem should worth a lot more than now, and more than food.
the 25 meat price has to stay it the only descent source of income or change the loot in gp so if the meat value is scaled down to let say 10gp, than also drop 15gp when dropping a meat to at least keep the same income from meat.
Quest should give a lot more xp, some quest should give a lv up.
Quest should always give at least 25% xp needed for next level, so if you need 40K xp and you do a quest the quest should give at least 10k xp.
Some longer or harder quest should give a complete level up.

mbp, welcome to the forums and thank you for your input. If I may I would like to correct one thing: if I read correctly you are mistaken in the sense that you cannot use food or potions in combat.. In my phone I hold down the screen on the food or potion and have the option to assign a 'quixk slot' which can be opened in combat by clicking the toolbox. You may also go to your inventory during combat and use your items during combat.
As for the pricing, I think it is fine for the most part. Maybe the values in te AT world is a bit different and hunting is a lit harder than mining: )

His suggestion is to make food only useable out of combat and potions usable in combat.

Welcom to the forums, great first post with really good suggestion and thought.
Happy hunting.

Whoopsie, sometimes I caint read lol. It would be hard to scarf down some food with a beastie lashin out at you. I'd further suggest to be able to use any drinkable item in combat, food or potion. I mean if you can whip out a vial and drink it, why not some milk?

Oh PS on the pricing, meat drops a lot more than any Rub and it is a general strategic resource for income at low levels via the snake cave. So its currently to our benefit, but shhhh don't tell the programmers.

the way the player heals with items is getting a massive facelift...
not sure if it will be done by the v0.7 update - but soon!
the properties of potions & food will change...
so that you will be buying both to survive.
some will heal over time, like regen (i was saying the food should do this)
and stronger potions may have some adverse side effects...
it wont be as simple as the current: [bread~> meat~> bonemeal] formula
stores will run out of stock & you will need to buy other sources of healing than just one potion / food type.
if this sounds a little sketchy, it's because the details are still being worked out.
more info as it surfaces, just letting you know that you shouldn't get to comfortable with the way things are.
it will end up being more realistic, and add a bit more variety, choices & challenge to the game.
