Everyone wanted the priest to up his production of bonemeals. I mean only 10 at a time was pretty annoying, but he felt safe flying under the radar. Now that you can buy 50 at a time(as of 6.12a2 public soon), it takes him more time to prepare them, so he is being cautious. Maybe one of his loyal customers gets caught with such a large number of the things. Quite a predicament that would place the priest in. So now in exchange for being able to purchase more bonemeal at one time, you have to step outside and wait a few minutes.

You have to "step outside" now in 0.6.12a
And your point is? I know you can only buy 10 in that version but as I stated you will soon be able to buy 50 at a time.

My point is that even in 0.6.12a, you can only buy 10 at a time, but you are still forced to "step outside".
Why does "step[ping] outside" make any sense anyway? Real life example: You walk into a coffee shop and order 8 coffees and 3 teas. Are you forced to "step outside" just because it takes 3-5 minutes to prepare before the sale is finalized?
Of course not. You may be are asked to step aside or wait in the "pick-up line", but you wont be asked to vacate the facility.

Well I wouldn't compare bonemeal to tea or coffee, it is more like alcohol during the 1920's prohibition era in the USA. Illegal but with a thriving black market.
And the technical answer is that the game engine does not currently support refreshing of the map you are occupying.
