Thoughts on shields...

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone else out there does not use a shield? I don’t… and not just because the ones I have found lower AC, but because they are heavy! I mean, it has to be hot down there (otherwise there would be no frogs and snakes), and trudging along with a shield and armor does not sound appealing. Think of the Spanish conquistadores in Florida… they had to be miserable.

Hope you all have a great day…

Thanks asking and wishing a gread day... this time it not helps... there can be better ones :(..

About shields, in later on AT there are some really nice ones:
-Strong Wooden tower shield; AC -6, BC +14
-Remgard shield; AC -3, BC +9, DR +1 or if you choose right storyline you may have Remgard combat shield; AC-3, BC +11, DR +1
-
Anyway.. this all will change when in future thefe are doublehanded weapons, fighting in two weapons... and new skills ;)

good hunting

There is one shield that doesn't reduce AC, the Crude wooden buckler. Only 1% BC, but no trade off.

Also, our character doesn't seem to be affected by heavy loads or extreme climates so I wouldn't worry about that.

Sarumar, hope your day gets better :(… Yes, I am looking forward to future releases where two handed weapon skills can be developed :D. If I “bank” skill choices, will I be able to select them in future updates? I am a newbie, so I have never experienced an update.

Mino, thanks for pointing that out about heavy loads... I noticed that there were no penalties. Maybe I am just weird, I dunno, but I like RPG’s where I can identify with my character. That is probably the hardest part about this game for me so far: there are no ranged weapons. I love bows (in real life too) and typically choose that path in the games I play. So I have chosen to fight without armor (other than hardened leather shirt) and shield and play as a rogue instead. Little things make me happy :)

Laggh,

Thanks... this autumn is the most hardest time in my life... but sooner or later I will be ok again.

AT is still masterpiece on progress... every update will make it even better... I too look forward at ranged weapons and two handed fighting..

good hunting

Yes if you save your skill points you can use them later on (even after an update to the game) I have started quite a few save files in my time and even have one where i have not done any quests or used any skill points (well except for Increased Fortitude).

Happy hunting Laggh!

As I despise, with all of my heart, equipping items with negative stats, no matter how beneficial they might otherwise be, this is the only shield I feel worth equipping.

I feel that there should be at least a few mid-game shields that are better than 1% BC with no downside. They could be rare and have properties, or give DR, etc.

Idea:

Tower Sheild
BC: +20%
DR: 3
Raises move cost by 2AP

Tower sheilds are hard t move around while in combat but do offer a great amount of protection.

NO THANKS!!! Most certainly not worth the move cost of 2 AP

I'd probably use it, but you'd have to have a build designed not to move in combat at all...
