Spam control

I'm sure this has been thought of but how about newbies have to post say 10 posts on existing topics before being able to create a new topic. Or have a new topic cap of 2 topics per day for the first month of joining. Probably a stupid Piggy idea. Sorry if it is.

This is not an unique idea, but I like the idea of a length restriction for the first X posts and no links out of the forum.

+1, the spam is quite heavy every day. This might help to control it better.

If they have spam bots we need to set up an anti-spam bot moderator.

I'm not going to limit new people that join the community to only posting in existing topics or limit how much they can post just to battle spam. The benefit of less spam is not worth taking away that much freedom of discussion for a new member. I've worked on tweaking our registration filter to the point that 90% of the spam registrations get blocked. The ones that get through seem to be real people and mostly be from hotmail.com email addresses.

In the meantime our excellent moderators and myself take care of the spam as soon as we see it. You guys help us by reporting it.

Thanks,
Scott

+1 I couldn't agree more!

A big thanks to all the members who report the spammers! It helps us to keep the spam to a minimum!

I could imagine it to be a tedious job, but if the mods are fine with this, who am I to complain :-)

I was just thinking how ironic it would be if they decided to post the spam into this thread.

The've done it before  Pyro removed it so fast that very few actually saw it but you can check the other spam topic and there are a couple of posts around it before it was removed.
