Bark Skin high level skill

I was wondering about this for a while, and I'm not sure if it's a good idea as it might be overpowered. But wouldn't it be great if a really high level damage resistance skill takes away damage by percentage?

For example:
Steel Body:
Prerequistes:
Bark Skin level 5
Strong Mind level 1
Enduring Body level 1

Effect: Takes away 50% of enemy damage.

What do you think? Would this be too overpowered? Because I've been wondering why the only way to fight defensively in this game is by blocking and dodging; something difficult to imagine for a character with enough muscle mass to take down wild boars with one punch. A few friends of my grandfather learn the iron cloth techniques that allow them to take blows without being winded, so this is where the idea came from.

I agree that it might be unlikely for a young child to be able to just power through enemy blows, but then again, this child we are talking about is a child that is strong enough to kill wild boars with a single punch. Thoughts?

Perhaps somewhat overpowered. Would a 25% damage reduction work?

I agree on this one, just because DR gets to be less useful at higher levels. I agree that 50% is a bit much, I would say 2 levels, first 10% (requires BS 3, enduring body 1), second 20% (requires BS 5, enduring body 2, strong mind 1) and this damage reduction is on top of your DR.

Well, I really don't know. If you have level 5 bark skin, the only creatures that can still harm you would have insane attack damage, like maonit trolls, maonit brutes, and arulirs. This might not work so well as 25% against those, but I agree that it would be overpowered against everything else at 50%. What do the other guys think, though?

I expect more tough mobs than the ones we have now in the game, at level 60 I am already invinvible except when all the statuses add up with the spiders. Some mobs with high damage, crit hit AND status effects. 20% or 25% could be cool. If it is implemented woth 2 levels, I would still take this skill :-)

Here are some interesting facts on NPCs and the damage they can cause:

Mainland Area (Crossglen, Fallhaven, Vilegard, Etc): With a lvl 5 bark skin most NPCs will not be able to hit you. A few may be able to strike you for 1 or 2 HP at most. (1-8AD)

BWM: Most of the NPCs in this regin will not be able to hit you, but the harder hitters would be able to do up to 5 damage in a swing. (4-10AD)

The Crossroads Guardhouse: Most of the NPCs will not be able damage you (frogs, Ants, Beetles, et) but the bees for the woodcutters quest could do quite a bit of damage to you with their high Critical multiplier and decent attack damage. (Bees: 3-6AD, Critical Chance 70%, Critical multiplier 3.00)

It's not until you get near the Iqhan Caves, Poisonous Fields, Spider Caves, and the Road to Remgaurd that you would really have to start worrying about your HP, and the only reason these areas are so dangerous is because of the NPCs low Attack cost and Critical Multipliers.

With Maxed out DR (with Equipment) you can get your DR up to 14, which will take a good chuck out of the damage NPCs will deal to you but will not guarantee protection against all NPCs.

With new quests being written, and bigger and badder NPCs in the future, relying on DR alone not help you to survive.

Ahh, no wonder Bark Skin has max at level 5. hehe...I did some calculation on skill points and found out that if I want to learn all the skills, the minimum level that I should be at is around level 328. ^_^

Edit:
And if I get IF at every possible level requirement, even if I don't have Bark Skin, it doesn't matter anymore. :P

The closest player we have to that level is Sarumar, but he has invested a bunch of skill points into Quick learner.

In response to Edit: EXACTLY! Increased Fortitude is amazing like that. With this skill you have the potential to gain more HP than you will know what to do with.

I have both maxed Bark Skin and getting max IF, but I would still love an advanced BS type of skill. It should fit the tougher and tougher areas.

I have learned Increased Fortitude on all my builds since the skills were introduced.

A must have for all adventurers!
