New player with a couple of questions.

Hello everyone,

Relatively new AT'r here, been playing since 6.X and recently re-rolled in v7 now that I have a better idea how the gameplay works. I'm level 29 atm, farming inside the Gargoyle Cave for RoLS (been there since level 16). Have a few questions about later levels of gameplay.

1) My build is what I'd consider a 'balanced offensive' build. I've added to AC at every even level so far, and AD at every odd level. My base stats are currently 130% AC, 15 AD. At some point I'd like to focus on BC and pump up the damage more, so at what point do you consider it to be 'enough' base AC? My AC with gear is currently 184%

2) I have 246 polished gems so I still have a long way to go before I can expect a RoLS, statistically speaking. In the time I've been inside the cave I've accumulated 704 regular health potions and over 40k gold. Should I sell the pots when I return to town/how much money will I need in the end-game? I do not plan on ever using Bonemeal pots, instead relying on a combination of regeneration/RoLS/breads as necessary, so I'm not calculating 51 gp per pot into the equation.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

hello and welcome to hte forum,
you will find that in the game gold will not be an issue because the game is still in beta and no one knows what will be in store for the next update. as of now i believe that the dev team is on vacation for a while. to get the rols is drop rate is 1 in 1000 kills. and thats if your lucky. the game does offer a kill count now. as for when to get bc its up to ou as the player to find out when you will need it. also it depend on which path you want to follow.
will you follow the path of the shield and sword? or the 2h weapon? or the duel weilding fighting style?
each fighting style offers different build. for me personal i started my 1st 8 levels gettin ad and ac. but im in my 20's and im working on my bc. with a high bc you wont get hit much. so im trying to get it to 100% for now. but thats due to me being a 2h weapon char. as for your question as to what is consider a high AC and looking at your ac at 184% its still low. you will get eated alive by the spiders on your way to remgard. you kinda gotta work all of your base stats getting them up tho

Actually, the dev team is already working on new areas and features for 0.7.1.

Also, the drop rate for RoLS is 1/10000, not 1/1000.

My char is a bit higher level but like sorrow said, there are several monsters on the way to Remgard that will be a pain in the rear without significantly higher AC and AD. See if there are any other items you can pickup that would boost the difference between your base AC and your geared AC. If I were you I'd put level-up points into AD and let skills and gear boost your AC the rest of the way. My base AC is only 140% and I've got 17 levels on you but my geared AC is at 272% which is considerably higher than yours. I don't know if .7 has changed any of this but it used to be that 300% AC was about the top of the curve giving you about an 85% chance to hit and it would take quite a bit more AC to add even a few more % chance to hit onto that with it peaking at 89.999...% CtH. I'm too lazy right now but somewhere on these forums there's an actual wolfram alpha graph of the AC formula which gives a very good visual idea of what you will want to aim for.

Right now my skills are:
IF 2, Regen 1 (probably 2 at some point), Fight Style Weapon + Shield (remains to be seen if this is a mistake), and 3 saved. I thought about eventually maxing all 3 combat styles and some proficiencies so that I can swap back and forth as desired (creating multiple toons isn't something I really want to do).

Gear is:
Hardened Leather Cap, Rigid Chain Mail, Necklace of the Protector, Fencing Blade, Strong Wooden Tower Shield, Villian's Ring (eventually a RoLS), Ring of the Protector, Chainmail Mittens, Vacor's Boots of attack.

I already know I can swap out certain pieces of gear to reach a higher AC, these are just the pieces I'm wearing for farming the ring. I find that DR 3 and my current BC of 76% works very well in the gargoyle cave.

At 253 polished gems and 2500 shadow trainers/masters slayed, I still have a long way to go before I expect to get a RoLS, so I'm going to gain quite a few more levels before I leave. Based on your info, I'll keep alternating AC/AD until I hit about 140-150 base AC, then go into AD.

When you hit level 30 you should max out on Combat Speed skill.

I probably will eventually. Aside from Regen 2, I don't want to spend any skill points until I have access to armor profs though.

1) Well there are many different theories of when you should stop adding to your AC.... I personally say somewhere around 340% (I know that sounds crazy, but there is math behind that number). NPC with Highest BC + Status effect + 140% higher AC = Being able to hit about 85% of the time.

Keep working on growing and maybe on occasion skip an AC add on an even level and put one into BC instead. Adding to your BC really helps lower the amount of times the NPCs can hit you.

2) If you are not using BMPs i recommend holding onto the Regular Potions to use when you are low on health... After i got my ROLS on my newest build i was able to live off of the RPOH (Regular Potion of Health) w/o having to buy any potions for a long time... that is the one really nice thing about grinding in a lucrative spot like the gargoyle caves.

Sorrow: We are not on vacation sir, we are now working on figuring out what the players want in the next update... If you have not filled out the survey yet i recommend that you do that now.

Tomcat: you are absolutely correct. The drop rate for the RoLS is 1 : 10,000

I went ahead and dropped the 2 into Combat Speed so I could swap to the Stone Cuirass for the time being and still get 2x attacks per round. Swapped into Troublemaker's gloves, spent 1 skill pt for lvl 2 of Sword & shield, and I'm sitting at 203 AC/76 BC right now at lvl 30. 21-30 damage with fencing blade.

I say dump the Stone Cuirass as well and get the Villain's Leather Armor.. You would probably enjoy the boost to your criticals and the added awesomeness of a lower move cost

Stone Cuirass:
BC: +22
DR: +1
Attack Cost: +2AP

Villain's Leather Armor:
BC: +15
AC: -4
CHS: +3
Move Cost: -1Ap
