Stuck on Spies in the Foam

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, and have made it to level 13 without any save/restore, but now I'm stuck on the Spies in the Foam quest in 0.7.0:
Since I've already agreed once to stand guard for the Feygard patrol watch outside the Foaming Flask, is it too late to pick a fight and kill him? I've tried 30-40 times, and I never get an opportunity to say anything like "Shadow be with you" to annoy him — it's always just "Thanks a lot my friend." with no option for additional dialogue.

Welcom to the forums !

here:
It is not neccesary to kill him. It is enought if you promised (it is ok to lye) to stand in watch if he goes inside. Arter that you can continue this quest.

True...but wouldn't a rogue
kill him for the xp satisfaction? especially if you are against feyguard?

That's a good point duke but once you killed the guard out side you would have to kill the drunks inside then the commander then that feygard snob in black that's on the left side of the foaming tavern and to leave no witnesses you would have to kill the inn keeper and the cook... hmmm that's not a bad idea... can you say free room?

I'll have to do that with a new character, I think.
Since I'd already offered to take the post before I knew I could fight, I don't think there's any way to go back with this character.

actually...
you can fight the guard, at least you could prior to v.7.0, so I assume you still can.

Can you test that in 0.7, maybe with an old saved character? I have completely failed to find any way to do it.
