Is Chainmail considered light or heavy armor?

Long time lurker, first time poster. Question for you all experienced folks:

Just rescued the folks from up in Charwood and I'm trying to make informed decisions about which skills to learn.

I'm wearing light armor now, so that would make sense, but I may not be wearing it for long after this.

There appear to only be 3 armors in the entire game officially classified as "heavy," (2 of which are special) so I'm wondering why that's an entire skill set unto itself.

Chainmail armors, of which there are 7 in the game, do not appear to be included in either the light or heavy armor skill sets that I can learn.

Are they technically classified as one or the other, or neither? As there are so many in the game it would seem to make sense to have an available skill set that affects them? Maybe there already is and I'm missing it?

I've searched for info on this but have struck out so far.

So helpful, Sarumar! Thank you.

I looked for those in the skills menu, but they don't show up until you have already chosen those skills.

I had the same question matthias. Most of the armor, states light or heavy, but a few do not. I mean, there is light chain mail and light splint mail, so who is to now what regular chain mail is? I suggest we add more clear descriptors.

It may also be helpful to simply have Fayvara indicate what counts as heavy armor when you speak with him.

now, look at Sarumar's screen shots...
if it isn't described in the category, then it's labeled in the name.

since you're asking about chain mail, it's heavy.
as per the first screenshot on the thread...
one of the two will give you an indication.

Well, only people that have made it to charwood, will see the armor prof information. I'm just saying that to eliminate these questions, couldn't they just add "heavy" to the chain mail that isn't light? Because if you look at the category of the Remgard Chainmail, it only states 'chainmail'...so to the novice, it would help if it also said chainmail heavy.

How hard is it, to add a NPC that is able to measure the weight of items? Or add a stat saying how heavy you are including equipment and inventory. Or stop being inconsistent with all the random fine light heavy bloody thick and what not prefix and suffix, so it might be clear by applying common sense and some logic what category a certain item belongs to :-P
