Save & Reload cheat for getting rare drops

Some objects are dropped only rarely by monsters, so you have to spend hours killing them to get enough to complete a quest (for example). If you want to save time and don't object to a bit of creative gameplay/cheating, here's a trick (which some of you probably already know):

Andor's Trail calculates which item(s) to drop only at the moment that a monster is killed, not before. That means that when you're fighting (e.g.) a White Wyrm, there's nothing stored in advance recording whether or not that particular Wyrm will drop a claw. So if you fight the monster down to a small number of hit points (e.g. 5-10), flee, and save the game, you can keep restoring the game and killing the monster with your final stroke until it drops the thing you want. Then, find a new monster and repeat.

This works best if you save while surrounded by several. Then each time you load you can fight a few at once, provided you can handle the battle. Works great when farming for a rols if you don't want to become overleveled.

I also wouldn't call it a cheat or exploit, it's part of the game design. Many rpgs with the instant save feature can be utilized to do similar things.

My Game that is hunting for the Rol was last saved with 6 imps right in front of it all with only a few hit points left... like shooting fish in a barrel.

1. It is not really a cheat, more of a startegy.

2. Shooting fish in a barrel is not easy, the refraction of the water's surface makes it very hard to line up the shot, let alone the bullet changing paths due to the surface tension and friction of the water. I would have to say it would be quite challenging to hit a fish in a barrel.

Although shooting fish in a barrel with a shotgun may be considered illegal cruelty in some countries.
