n00b, Questions and so on...

Post by ionsedfisheads »

AT... Great game, but man it's a pain.
Having just reached lvl32, I'm pondering a build change. Should I carry on with CE 3, Merchant-something 2, or say meh, and restart?

CE is all well and good, but it doesn't help much, and merchant skills... I'm here to kick butt and chew bubblegum, just kill more for money, right?
Also, most of my level points are in HP, which is all gravey if you want to join the 1,000HP club before lvl100, but shouldn't more points be spent in a little boom?
Axes are a bit pants, and the Flagstone's Pride is the only decent weapon I've come across.

But, long story short; to restart, or not to restart?
I mock you with my monkey pants!
Also, I liek caek. No, it's not a lie... Maroon. -_-

To start over or not to start over.... that is a question that has plagued adventurers since day one.

Eventually you will be able to get more skill points, but the big thing is if you are able to live with level 2 Merchant. Corpse Eater could still become a great asset once your AD gets high enough to take out more NPCs in a single turn.

You've been spending Level up points on HP (About how many? if more than 3... Hmmmm.... Sorry but I'd suggest starting over again. You can use Increased Fortitude to slowly raise your HP as you level, spending 1 or 2 is fine but any more than that and your will loose out on a lot of needed power (AC and AD are the key!)

The choice is of course yours,
Happy hunting adventurer!

Right, so you're saying throwing the first 15 levels into HP was a bad idea, and I have IF2 right now, so... I'm kinda sporked. Unless you count 130HP base as a good thing.
Lets face it, the excrement has hit the extrusion device so restarting will be the best idea. Okidoki, time to bite the bullet and send Mk.1 to the reclamation plant.

Lulz... mind if I steal that one? Also, here's one for you that will take some dictionary searching:

The feline's inquisitiveness was prodromic to its matutinal demise. Howsomever bethink oneself thus: assuagement engendered the aforementioned supervenient retrogression.

Back to the topic at hand, it's entirely up to you. My first char only made it to level 8 before I started having difficulty. A bit of forum browsing and then a big post where I asked for suggestions was all it took to set me on my way and I've been on my 2nd char ever since without looking back after a couple of restarts I'm now happily on my 3rd build. However, 32 levels is quite a bit more work than I put in and you may be more attached to your char than I was to mine.

As for Corpse Eater, it's only powerful with the right kind of build (high AC, high AD) because with that kind of build you can mow monsters down so fast that they rarely get the opportunity to hit you. High number of kills + HP back on kill = lots of HP back. For that same reason, Regeneration is not as good for the high AC/AD build because you can clear an entire map before Regen has procced twice. They're both good skills to have, you just need to know which one is better suited to the build you plan on running. A high BC build benefits enormously from Regen for example. Another couple of virtually "must have" skills are Increased Fortitude at level 5 (or as early as possible) and Combat Speed (1 and 2) by the time you hit level 30 (or 32 if you don't save points). Other than that, you can pretty much choose whatever you want. I'd try to set a goal ahead of time so you know whether you want survivability, crits, speed, or something else and then look through the list of skills and try to plan out which ones you'll need to take to get there.

Well, I went back to my old char and am now spending time on AC & AD, would rather have an insane buffer then work on the poking side.

Another good expression would be: go forth and fornicate.

Once I completed all the quests and leveled up a little to 50, I parked my first build. The game is in development, so I don't know where it's going (except that things will certainly change) so I'm now building a "template" character. I'm not getting any skills except the must have ones (IMO, IF, Re1, CS1 and CS2), and I'm not taking any quest past the point where I have to choose sides. I have spent all my level ups, mostly on AD, but I may stop doing that too. I killed a lot of snakes until I got the gold to buy some decent gear, and I'm only buying gear I know I will keep for a long time. I'm now at level 14, and I'm going to try cleaning out Flagstone. At some point I'll copy the savefile to a backup folder and (hopefully) I can use it as a staring point for any new builds in the future. Depending on where you are with your old character, you might want to think about doing something similar. It should save a lot of early grinding if you change your mind again.

Just hit Lodar's, but I do still have a lvl10 blank save just in case...
Really investing in AD & AC right now, so shouldn't be too much of an issue.

How do you save points? It doesn't seem to let me level up unless I spend them? or do I just not level up?

Skill point. Every 4th level up will give you one. Just don't spend them. Save them until you're at a high enough level to access a specific skill. Some won't let you get them until certain min level.
