Yes that's right. Nevertheless you can complete the thieves quest.

Well that was in another line of reality. But i know for sure that the culprit has been punished. As a permadeath player I lost him somewhere in the mid-20ies. As I do with quite a lot of my brothers of Andor.
Michael is one of the most pitiable figures in the history of Crossglen.
