For those times that you are just grinding and killing easy monsters for XP, I found that instead of actually tapping repeatedly and quickly in the same spot, you can save your thumb or finger some stress by massaging the D pad in small circles. The circular swiping action is interpreted as repeated tapping by the game code. You can achieve the same by swiping around the screen, but I found that it gives a higher chance of accidentally moving somewhere you might not want to go.
