I'm still in the gargoyle cave, working my pixeled butt of to get a RolS.
By now I invested two skillpoints in "magic finder" so in theory I got a 100% bonus to the drop chances.

But because I still did'nt find the ring I made a test:
I droped all my collected small rocks and polisched gems.
I killed 200 monsters, 100 gargoyle masters and 100 gargoyle trainers.
Now my inventory shows that I found 20 polisched gems and 41 small rocks.
The original drop rate is, as you probably all know, 10% polisched gems and 25% small rocks.
With the 100% bonus for 2 points MF the rate is 20% and 50% and I should have 20 gems and 100 small rocks.
With the gems the numbers add up but withe the small rocks they are way off.
And if they are off for the small rock they probably are off for the RolS, too.
My drop rate for the small rock is at 20% and I have no clue what it is for the RolS.

Please tell me that the two skillpoints for MF are not wasted!
Maybe you can explain to me, how MF works (I read the "Extraordinary and legendary items"-post from Samuel).

(BTW: 4500 G-Trainer and 2160 G-Master killed, no luck. Soon I'll leave this RolS-forsaken place!)

MF works only on L&E items. Not on small rocks or potions.

Thats a relief! So my polished gems are the anomaly. Thats much better than the other way around.

not to forget: magic finder also works on rare items.

Regarding how much you need to invest in MF for L&Es, it's slowgoing at 30MF for a RoLS, but at 50MF (hexedited, and no, I sadly don't have the file anymore but I can edit a new one) I got 4 RoLS within 100 kills, but that is also sheer luck as well.

I have got my first RoLS last Saturday.
After killing a few thousand gargyles i decided to skill 2 points in MF and a little while later i got the first.
Then i got the first GoW very quick and the first ElyR after ~1000 wyrms.

And Just one Moment ago i looked in my inventory, after doing the "The agent and the beast" Quest(Guthbered <-running-> Harlenn 3x), i saw that i got the second ElyR without grinding 4 it(no loot dialog box)!

So Yes! Magic Finder is working(for me)!
0.02% with MF2 + " 'nen Arsch voll Loco Luck " brought me RoLS: 2, ElyR: 2, GoW: 2, GoLF: 1 in just 4 days grinding
