When not using a weapon you can not make critical hits. What are the chances someone could create an item that would enable critical multipliers? Maybe specializing in fighting without weapons could enable criticals.

we've talked about unarmed combat a few times in dev meetings,
but i've been away for awhile & i'm not sure how much interest there still is...
granted, there were enough people talking about it for it to be mentioned.

i'm gonna dig around a little bit & see what comes up...

There are proficiency skills for unarmored and unarmed (http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5610), but there are no fighting style skills for this category. I could see adding Fighting style: unarmored and unarmed, and Specialization: unarmored and unarmed (with better names!). The Specialization skill could unlock criticals.

I like this idea. Unarmed can be called Hand to Hand, Brawling or even Fisticuffs. Though that last one is a rather out-dated term.

How about Bare Knuckles ? That's the Japanese name of one of my favorite games of all time, Street of Rage (especially #2).

I could see that. Streets of Rage was fun. The arcade version was in the pizzeria I hung out in after school back in high school.

I would say that gloves and gauntlets would affect such a combat style and therefore such equipment could add crit traits, but ONLY if unarmed with the skill.

Random Idea

Unconventional Weapons (and Gear):

~ a third dagger / hand blade that occupies the glove slot...
~ brass knuckles / gauntlets that could occupy the shield slot...
~ spiked boots / stilettos, the feet obviously...

[you can't equip this type of gear untrained]

(and still not technically holding a weapon)

...Spiked / Bladed Gloves / Gauntlets - the gauntlets would do more damage as they would have spikes / blades on the side (like Batman's gloves)...
...Bladed or Spiked Rings...
