There are trade-offs either way, and as the game gets more developed, those will increase. They are not avoidable. The objective is to make the game as replayable as possible. One time you choose one path, the next time another.

Can't wait for the update. I had a character a few years ago. Wish I would have kept him. I would be at a pretty high level by now.

I'm very angry. I started the new character like I said I would do. I was falling asleep while playing and saved over the file I've been working on for a week. I had a lot of quests completed. A lot of great weapons and armor too. Well back to the start.
I started the character I erased over again and kept the one I saved over it. I'll just play one character One day and the other the next. I'm pissed.

Sorry for your character though. As a piece of advice, keep several saves at different points in your adventure and make backups of your saves every now and then.

I have backups of key saves on my PC. That might be considered paranoia by some. Until their phone breaks for some reason

If I'm playing a lot, I'll usually only be using one character and they'll always be in slot 1. It takes a bit of jiggling around to get them into slot 1 if they're not there already, but I've not screwed up yet.
