Maybe nut or rjackson can be of help. Others had the same issue with their save game. Hopefully you don't have to start over

I've done it at least six times now, 10/15 minutes max. for each of those, this one must be close to three hours now. Enough is enough, it won't kill me to not finish this quest.

I meant only that if you search a place and a marble is not there, it does not mean it will not be there in the future. Marbles are small, and easy to miss. They do not have a consciousness

Of course, but the marbles are too self conscious to show any consciousness
