The Nightmare was created only so that if you do something very dumb earlier in the quest there is a way out of the dungeon (i.e. by dying). It has no drops, and there is nothing else interesting about it.

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
What weapon does provide best damage per fight output after the change at high character levels? Before the change it was DoSP and blade from graveyard. I don't count QSD because additional strikes do not compensate for its debuffs

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
I should not be so addicted to the 'nightmare'. Thank you all for the clarification.

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
There isn't one. Consider two weapons. One has 4 strikes per round, 25 AD each strike. The other has 1 strike per round, 100 AD each strike. So the possible damage per round is the same for the two weapons. For the sake of argument, the actual chance to hit is 50%.
Scenario one. You are swarmed by monsters with 25 HP. Weapon one could kill four of them in one round, although the chance of getting all four is only 0.5^4=6.25%. However, with four strikes the chance of getting at least one of them is 1-0.5^4=93.75%. With weapon two the chance of killing one of them in one round is 50%. The chance of killing more than one is zero.
Scenario two. You are fighting a single monster with 100 HP. For weapon one, the chance that you can kill it in one round is 0.5^4=6.25%. For weapon two, the chance that you can kill it in one round is 50%.
So which is better?
That does not even take into account monster DR (a hundred strikes per round with 1 AD each does nothing against a monster with 1 DR!) or actor conditions inflicted by the weapon.
The goal of the change was to make weapons different, but with no single choice of what is "best". Hopefully, we accomplished that.

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
Alright, what weapon has highest damage multiplier with 3 or 4 AP cost? This is a new quotient and it's sadly not available in weapon database.
What weapon has highest damage per one hit?
I'm 64 level and only enemies which still trouble me are hiratuls near Lodar's house. Is there a weapon which can one-shot them?

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
You could try with a weapon with high dmg modifier, such as Tiqui's hammer, or the 13 AP two-handed sword dropped by the troll (sword of the annahilator) if you want to one-shot them. The 4AP weapon with the highest Dmg modifier is Barbed dagger (107%), then it is Steel sword and stiletto (105%)Valdemar wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 1:50 pm Alright, what weapon has highest damage multiplier with 3 or 4 AP cost? Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
107% isn't very exciting. I guess I will keep the dagger of shadow priests. What about 5AP weapons? (with marrowtaint they give three hits per attack, which is acceptable) 6-7 allow two hits.
Is there a database of all weapons, including those which were added by 0.7.11?

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
Hirathils have high DR, so you have to get past that. Higher attack cost weapons have a higher damage modifier, so in general they will work better in this case. If you try to take one out with four strikes, the DR gets subtracted from the damage four times!
There is a database of weapons, but you would need to download the source code, install ATCS, and then set up a project.

Re: Andor's Trail game mechanics
I made this list a few months ago, but weapons from 0.7.11 are not in the list. However, considering that I am not a developper, I didn't dig in the code to check every weapon... I made this list by playing through the game. Hope it can help you.

Also, especially with the latest changes, 2 handed weapons and high AP weapons with a high dmg modifier got way more interesting against high DR mobs, like for example hirathils
