It is. What, you have better chance to get away from a fight? Are you fighting a monster to run away or to kill that monster? If you'd allocate those skill points differently, chances are you wouldn't even need to run away, instead you could stand your ground and win. Definetly a useless skill for anyone but a Frenchman. Might as well also make a skill to surrender to a monster and wait for a stronger ally to beat the monster for you.
It is very useful for "evading" them. In that you can sneak right by them or even stand next to them with a much reduced likelihood of them attacking you.

Why not just kill them? This game has no stealth missions and hardly any loot containers, 99,9% of gold, loot and XP comes from slain monsters, so what is the point not slaying them?

Why not just kill them?
1. Your too weak to kill it. You wondered into an area that you are not capable of surviving in.
2. You don't want to kill it. You don't want to spend the time to. You don't want the XP. Etc
3. You are out of potions and could die in the fight.

Yeah well, unless you are a masochist playing on permadeath, none of those reasons warrant spending skill points on Evasion. But if you do play on permadeath then you probably know the game already very well, well enough to be prepared everywhere you go and then you can still spend those points on more useful skills.
I mean, you can get away from a fight with a good chance even without that skill.

It's not just about permadeath. You may not be in a situation where you can afford to "die". You don't want to lose the XP. You don't want to "die" and wake up in the last bed you slept in. Think "Lodar" or the blackwater cabin.

The question was if these situations warrant skill points spent on Evasion. Skill points that could go somewhere else where they'd increase your survival chances. If you do the math you must conclude that the answer is a firm NO.

I didn't say it was worth it. I am saying that it has value and I've used it in the past.

It is there when it is needed and useful. Not everyone loves and uses them, but it has its uses. Just like all other skills, not everyone uses every skills. You take and use whatbyou want for your build.

No breaking of the fourth wall!

Why not just kill the monster first time? Because you are not strong enough. Hit and flee tactics can be very effective if you use them right. You can go in, knock down one monsters HP, flee. Repeat until many monsters only have a few HP left. Then wade in and kill them all.

You can also stand next to a monster that can't move onto you and never get attacked. Very useful for healing in some places.

Evasion is very useful if you use it to tactical advantage. Like many skills.
