Ah okay, I was too rushed then. Still a bit of a negative experience, maybe you might want to point this out more obviously in the game?

One other thing I noticed: the railway tracks near the cave seem to flash light and dark alternatingly. Never observed such a thing before.

The flashing is there to tell us that not the entire map tile is covered by an image. It's basically a testing tool

Ok, I see. In the old house, I can only use the vault key after killing Defy. It didn't open the floor flap before that even tough I had the key. This was unexpected to me.

Like everything else in the game, you have to make a conscious effort and make a decision. You're not going to get an opportunity to loot the vault until you commit to a decision. You're not going to get the opportunity to loot it and give them the key
