Battery power

Post by Countvlad54 »

As the game gets perfected, will the battery be drained quicker?

Thanks for a great laugh

Battery usage depends on activity, not game perfection.

I think the perfect game should have perfect energy consumption and you should never again run out of batteries!!!

I think the OP meant, will things be built in to the game to keep it from running 100% when it doesn't need to.

There is a strong and popular belief out there that apps can drain your battery, just because they are not "KILLED" with a worthless task killer. They go in to "running apps" and see an app listed and think it is running down the battery and using memory space. I have 9 Android devices in my house, 1 2nd Gen Vibrant, 2 Nook Color, 2 Vibrant, 2 MyTouch and 2 G1. The first G1 (both run Android 2.3) was bought 6 months after released. The only time my battery gets drained, is when I am using my device without being plugged in. I did play Andor's Trail for 2 hours on my Vibrant and the battery went to 50%. That is with full brightness and the screen on the entire time. There is no battery issue with game.

This is very nice to see a game that does not drain my battery. And after some quick searching, I found a Droid forum stating that the android system can have running services and not use any processor power or additional memory, as posted here: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid- ... round.html

So, worry not and play on! :D

Exact same thing developers have been trying to tell users since day 1 of Android. After all this time it is sad that their are still people that think this is not true.

Thank you for a good question.

The current implementation of Andor's Trail halts all processing when you switch to another application, so it will definitely not drain your battery by being running (halted) in the background. No processing occurs.

While playing the game, we have no heavy calculations or processing going on, which makes the game very friendly to battery life. The only automatic processing we do while running the game is evaluating whether to spawn new monsters and where to move existing monsters. That's a piece of cake to calculate for modern devices :)

In that same vein, I recommend adding a battery bar that can be view from the player menu. I don't think it should always be open, but to be able to view it without closing the game would be nice.

I use Gauge Battery Widget, there is a free and donate version, both have the option to have a numbered battery icon in the top menu bar.
