Leveling also depends on how much gold (either directly or from items you can sell) you want while trying to get that XP.

For example: the snake caves give you meat you can sell for 12 gold, which is pretty good for a beginning level.

The bigger selling drop items in Flagstone Prison are the Regular healing potions, and Iron Swords, followed by the Ruby Gems.

Blackwater Mountain, if you stay around the cabin, you can get the Blackwater Iron Sword, and also Minor potion of speed - which you should keep since they're pretty handy. I plan to take my new "base game" character there to stock up on speed potions once he's strong enough.

If you like Shadow of the slayer, you should consider trying to get the Legendary item Rapier of Lifesteal (ROL). Lower AP cost and better restore HP effect.

I have the shadow of slayer. Sword works.great going to lodestone I level easily.and.ise.only ten.to.fiften bonemeal. I.now jist.level with.ease..

My levelling sites (and strategy):

level 0-5: outside areas around crossglen, only green snakes and small dogs (because of the meat=>gold=>equipment chain)
level 5-15: snake cave (almost too easy, with DR from hardened leather and irugotu), same goldchain.

At level 15 I can buy all the equipment I want in Fallhaven and from Ailshara: DR-items are replaced by quickstrike, JoF, villain's stuff, coward boots. From that moment I can adventure at will, when it gets hard falling back to three-attacks-then-flee style (evasion really rocks!).

For levelling I use the following sites:
level 15-25: flagstone
level 25+: iqhan cave
No BWM, don't like fatigue!

Meat sells for 25 gold and a Regular Potion of Health (also obtained from gargoyle cave trainers) sells for 34 gold each. Because Meat gives 12 HP while the RPoH only gives 10 I always sell meat until I can start collecting RPoH on a regular basis and then I stop selling meat and start selling RPoH.

This probably explains how I have nearly 22k gold at lvl 24 while still having 239 Meat, 43 Bonemeal potions, 115 RPoH, and the best equipment money can buy (not counting 6.11 stuff which I haven't gotten to yet).

Next im go back to flagstone prison to grind some gold.... This build; level 24, barehanded, completed 6.10 area + grind one irdegh poison gland, never used bonemeal.

Next I need THE AXE and some healing potions before....
