I personaly dont know why every one hates magic finder. I like the skill and find it usefull. But it would seem as tho others find it useless. so i propose either completely get rid of mf (which i would be sad) and if anyone has sp in mf give them back the points. Or either add more to the effect of mf or add something else to mf. maybe like combinding MF skill to the skill Treasure Hunter so you would have:
increase chance if finding gold in monster drops by 30%
increase amount of gold

Re: Magic Finder
I don't have MF on current build tho I did on previous I found it helpful to find led/ext items
but I think it should only be available after a certain level so new plays don't accidently pick it without
knowin there is going to be a heap of grinding involved to

Re: Does Magic Find Really Work?
Well, I have to change what I said about MF.
It seems quite efficient for Extraordinary items (not quite for Legendaries in my case).
I got the ShaF with exactly 10 jinxed ring (MF2, so half of the theoretical measure number).
I got the GoLF @ 60 Sharpened Gems (50 was the target, so, not too far).
I got the GoW at an unknown # of black axes (as other mobs drops it), but should have been within 10% of target count.
I'm now going for the Valugha set, and will post the results.
So, if you plan to get only the legendaries, maybe MF is a wasted skill point, but for extraordinaries, it seems to work rather well.

Re: Does Magic Find Really Work?
I just want to stress that the Magic Finder is actually worth spending a few points in!
I got my RoL after a mere 688 imps with just 2 points invested (yes, it is a matter of luck as well, I know), which effectively doubles your chances in finding LE/EX/Rare-items.
With just 2 points moving from 1/10,000 for finding LE to 1/5,000 is very much worth the investment, even if the system is still based on luck.
My GoLF was a bit trickier, seeing that is required about 1.4k of the targetted enemies. Wouldn't want to think how many enemies I would've had to grind through in either of the cases if I hadn't invested in the skill.
I wouldn't recommend that anyone should put more than 6 point in the skill, though. Any point spent after that improves your chances far too little to be worth it. And 6 points puts you at 1/2,500! That's four times better than the original chances!

hm, 6 points in Magic Finder skill means 24 levels means many monsters to kill.Lunaticbpsf wrote:...

E.g. for a RolS I have to kill 10000 in theory, for 24 levels I have to kill _many_ (depending which level you start).
I think I prefer killing thousands of gargoyle men and invest the skill points in getting Taunt...
(I have Taunt and like it more and more

That's why it is good to invest in Quick Learner early on, too! That will more than make up for the tedious grinding!Nut wrote:hm, 6 points in Magic Finder skill means 24 levels means many monsters to kill.Lunaticbpsf wrote:...

The character I'm playing now (see signature) is an intended "grinder". Lvl fast and find eq. fast (I'm investing in MF for future R/E/L:s, too).
I'm not going to spec. him in any way until maybe lvl 80-100 (when I'm going for Sword and Shield!), and make him a killing-machine!
I've found two of the three items necessary for optimal hack/slashing (RoL and GoLF) and I am currently farming for RoLS (at 2000 kills and counting).
24 levels is nothing early on, so invest wisely instead of some quick stat-boosts that won't make a difference later on

Quick Learner? I never thought of this.Lunaticbpsf wrote:That's why it is good to invest in Quick Learner early on, too! That will more than make up for the tedious grinding!
I read it gives 5% additional XP on killing monsters per _skill_ level.
On the other hand I need about 5% more XP for each level, and skill points I get just every 4 levels. So thats about 20%
To get 5% more from monster killing, I must spend a skill point for it, and therefor need 20% XP more to get 4 levels up to get a new skill point.
(Sounds confusing I fear?)
Or do I understand the Quick Learner wrong?

Re: Does Magic Find Really Work?
Hi to all,
I stumbled over this topic and catch up the question: does MF works?
Maybe I misunderstood a posting, but I did a quick test by pushing the MF skill on an extremly high value and go for the ring.
Result was 6 RolS out of 6 kills.
Gone for the bwm sword and dagger:
6 out of 6 kills - for both the dagger and the sword
Conclussion:
MF works for any non-ordinary item.
But without cheating grinding for the legendary stuff is a game of luck.
Imho I love it just this way.

Re: Does Magic Find Really Work?
There is actually a topic describing the function of Quick Learner and its benefits! I've got no link right now, but I'll edit one in as soon as I can (instead of beginning a whole new discussion).Nut wrote:Quick Learner? I've got an exam this weekend, so my free time is limited, I'm afraid.
But when it comes to investing points in MF, Quick Learner is great for keeping your character strong enough to grind (sure, not many bonuses from skills doing this, but the stats gained when leveled up are enough in the long run. Especially if you have Increased Fortitude!).
