Quickstrike Dagger Vs Venomous Dagger

Post by nezkeys79 »

Okay so I was using the venomous dagger for a while and the crits didnt come that often so switched to the quickstrike and feel the 2 extra hits makes it better than the venomous dagger. reliability+2 more hits > low crit chance/slightly higher AD

what are your thoughts?

I've never liked the Quickstrike dagger because of the massive reduction in BC. Have stopped using the Venomous dagger since finding out it will be changed (made less powerful) in the next release.

I'm one of the foolish ones who sold off their Venomous Dagger, so I can't speak on how good it is.

But I can say that once you get your AC & AD pretty high from level ups, the quickstrike dagger becomes a great weapon. If you're wearing the Jewel of Fallhaven, then you get 5 attacks per turn, and if your AC and AD is high enough, you don't have to worry about the reduced BC because they won't get a chance to hit back. Throw in the minor potion of speed and that's 6 attacks per turn.

6 attacks per turn with a potion of speed! Interesting. I think I might give it a go. Could get you out of trouble when fighting multiple enemies.
After sweating blood for the ElyR I tend to just use that now as it really is a great sword.

After using the venomous dagger almost exclusively since I first got it, I have been using the quickstrike dagger for grinding for the ElyR. I have been using more healing potions, but usually can make a kill in my first turn with the five hits, as I only have to land three of them to kill. When I do not get the first turn, I usually end up with fatigue, which reduces my hits to two, and I flee.
I miss the chance for a critical hit, especially against the auleaths (I don't think that is spelled right), because the strong ones take six landed hits to kill, giving them one turn to hit back. It does not help to kill every fifth wyrm trainer in one blow, and get hit back and fatigued by one of the other four because one of my three swings with the venomous dagger did not land. Then I have only two swings to finish him off.
If it were not for the fatigue, I would still prefer my old faithful venomous dagger, and will definitely buy the new replacement for it when it gets downgraded in the new release, but right now think the quickstrike dagger has the edge for me against the wyrms and their trainers and apprentices. (Never thought I'd be saying that! ;) )
So, it depends on your stats and the monsters you are fighting and their stats, which weapon is "better."

Didn't mention this in my first post, but I had also managed to get to a point where my AD is enough that 3 hits will kill the Wyrms and their trainers while using the quickstrike dagger. My AC seems high enough that I almost always get those 3 hits too, since there's 5 chances per turn, and as I mentioned, taking a minor potion of speed gives you 6 chances.

The drop rate for those speed potions from the auleths seems pretty decent too. I had sided with Prim so I also have the option to buy them, but haven't had to lately since there's been plenty for free from the drops. I'm saving them up for now, until the next update so I can use it while hunting for the legendary items (after using the skills to have a better drop rate) and maybe some future creatures will be tougher and the extra AP will help then.

I recently started using Flagstone's pride again, which imo is the best critical hit weapon I have in my arsenal (having long ago sold the venomous dagger).

I was having fun with the Shadow of the slayer, but only 2 hits per turn just isn't enough (due to the 7 AP, which is still 6 AP even with the Jewel of Fallhaven, so even the 2 extra attack points and if I use minor potion of speed, I won't get a 3rd strike from that sword). It is great for creatures with low block chance though since you get 1 HP restored for every kill.

The quickstrike dagger is also good, but with Flagstone's Pride I get 3 attacks per turn, and I can make it 4 with a quick speed fix. I updated my signature stats just now so its based off equipping Flagstone's pride (previously using Shadow of the Slayer) and the AC & AD is enough to get the kill on my first attack most of the time.

As you level up, speed is king. The quick strike dagger will do far more damage in a round than any other weapon. Without potions, I can kill a Wyrm trainer with 3 hits out of 5 with the quickstrike dagger, but I need to hit all 3 times with the venomous dagger or 2 out of 3 and 1 crit to kill the same mob. The only time I switch to the Venomous dagger is when I am fatigued as a crit and a hit will still kill them but 3 hits out of 3 from the Quickstrike won't guarantee a kill.

at first i used the Venomous Dagger and i tried the quickstrike dagger but i dont really like it because of the negative effects it has on my BC.

I feel like this topic can be argued either way depending on how you built your player

high AD & AC = great for the venomous dagger or Quickstrike dagger

but once your AD + AC gets to a point it doesnt matter what you use as long as you can still hit with it (excluding any Blackwater misery items from this statement) My AD is at a base level of 25 (that is compleatly unequipped) and it is at 42(while equipped). Which can do damage up to 126 in a single swing.

The quality of your equipment becomes less important as you can pad your stats with leveling. The first 20 levels or so are the hardest, after that the game gets easier and easier.
